[ExI] English corpora

Do you know of a free corpus for English from which I could, with 
negligible effort, pull lists of words by part of speech in declining 
frequency order? For example, a list of the 1,000 
most-frequently-used verbs or the 5,000 most-frequently-used nouns.

There are massive, wonderful corpora for in-depth language projects 
and simple short lists by part of speech but it's not obvious where I 
can just set N and part of speech and get my list.
