There are cases to be made for a big hurry: like minimizing the period
during which we don't know winner(s) so people can come to terms with the
results and the transitions can proceed. But, really, I just don't think
there's any good reason that results shouldn't come faster with the
application of modern technology.

Sure, if manually-counted paper ballots were immune to fraud or allegations
of fraud, that would be a good reason to accept a delay. But they're not.
