A couple of ways.  You most likely have compatible MHC genes.  The

There is a typo on page 9.  The first "maternal" should be "paternal."
 I have not managed to contact Clark and get him to fix it.  (Sorry if
I already mentioned this, I know I have short-term memory problems.)

But the thing that boggles me is how humans detect a .8 genetic
similarity without gene analyzers.
