Immortality is only a temporary consideration for humanity.
With nanotech and brain enhancements, maybe uploading as well, the
brain speedup involved will mean a huge increase in effective living
time. One day effectively becomes equivalent to hundreds of years.
They are already developing quantum computers and photonic computing.
The unfortunate side effect of speeding up brain processing though is
that interstellar travel times become even more impossibly long.
