My belief is that the Earth is known to the advanced alien races out there,
and that we are essentially a designated nature preserve until we have the
maturity and technology to be seen as a worthy spacefaring race. I suspect
they have a Star Trek style Prime Directive in place that has protected us
so far. But if we continue to misbehave, that at a certain point, we may
get a visit from their version of Klaatu and Gort.
