I don’t think there is a strong reason. I just happened to come across twitter a few months ago and it is the only social media that I use regularly.

I’ve heard of mastodon, but have never tried it. I’m mostly interested in using social media to develop an intuition of what people find arousing. Social media enables rapid experimentation and iteration to test for what kind of content generates likes and shares. I want to go into business so I’m trying to learn what incentivizes people to like and share content so that I can develop the best possible products. Would mastodon be good for this kind of learning?

I have noticed a significant decrease in the quality of tweets that show in my feed. I’ve been flooded with cookie cutter exaggerations from influencer types who have paid at least $8 per month for twitter blue which promotes their tweets above the rest. Twitter now feels like an advertising platform where tweets are ranked according to the amount of money influencers pay to promote their tweets rather than by wit and merit.

I much prefer a fairer playing field where posts are not ranked based on money, but rather popularity derived from originality and ingenuity. I am okay with a few ads, but having every high ranking post be more or less an ad degrades the experience for me.
