In terms of social media, I don't know if I think it's a good place to
find business ideas. I would focus on solving problems or providing
value, but I don't know your business idea, so perhaps social media is
the best laboratory for developing it. ;)

As for mastodon, I'd say that since you can choose instance based on
ideology and interest, it could definitely be a good lab to find out
what triggers people.

You can join communist, capitalist, fascist instances and so on, and
pretty quickly you'll learn what gets people going in those "tribes".

Then you have the main instance mastodon.social which is closest to
twitter, that is, politically correct, moderated, and a broader user
base.

But mastodon is very small compared to twitter, so if you just need raw
numbers, I'd stay on twitter.
