I put that into a search engine and got the reply: "Many Americans believe the system of checks and balances is not working well, with 68% expressing concerns about its effectiveness. This suggests that the balance of power among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches is currently facing significant challenges." 

It's obvious even to me, a foreigner with little knowledge of your political system, that the system of checks and balances is far from alive and well. The organisation V-dem has quite a bit to say about the recent deterioration of democracy in the US, I'll gather together their comments and post a summary here later.
