Rather, this is a guy with the full backing of the US Navy - and given his
prior patents plus this, it's a disinformation campaign.

Due to the potential to leak between the containing elements, right?  If
they could get a strong enough magnetic field to keep the plasma out of the
cracks, then maybe...but evidence suggests they haven't.  (And even if this
was legit, the patent is still "my calculations suggest that" rather than
saying they had actually done it.)
