Mike, I’d say you came off extremely judgementally, and sounded as if you were preaching to someone about their “sin” of non-PC speech and general “thought crimes”. 

You’re speaking in a way directly associated with “call out culture”, and it’s part of why that culture is regarded so poorly outside of activist culture. It’s incredibly abrasive.

I’m abrasive, generally, but I understand that and accept it. I don’t think the same is true of yourself.

You corrected him on “I vs they” when it didn’t need correcting, in the sense that he said what he meant. He didn’t say “we” because, as you can see from his reply, he did not mean “we”. He is intentionally distancing himself verbally. You can disagree with that, but that’s the fundamental truth of the situation.

Activists can say all they want about how people shouldn’t “tone police” but tone matters. 

Not saying my tone was/is any better. But again, I accept that I am abrasive and understand when people react poorly to that.
